The Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Society (PTCMAAS) is a non-profit organization working towards the safe and professional practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Saskatchewan. Our goals are to encourage the integration of Acupuncture and TCM into health care in the province of Saskatchewan; enlighten public understanding of Acupuncture and TCM; and promote the health benefits of Acupuncture and TCM. Safety is encouraged by our members through fostering professional development and establishing standards for practitioner education.
History of our Organization
In the fall of 2003, several young TCM practitioners who had recently opened clinics in Saskatchewan were interested in sharing professional knowledge and experiences. The Regina Mosaic cultural festival had a Chinese Pavilion which wanted to demonstrate Chinese Medicine. With guidance from experienced TCM practitioners, several people organized an information booth offering Chinese herbal tea, acupuncture demonstrations, explanations about TCM and contact information about practitioners. This small group grew as more practitioners moved to (or moved back to) Saskatchewan and as connections with established practitioners developed.
Over the years, we organized professional education workshops, held annual public education events, consulted with other health associations, and worked on association infrastructure. Our Society is currently a growing forum and meeting place for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture professionals in Saskatchewan.
